img.now: what do 100 free credits a month actually get you?

The need img.now is built for

Plenty of people need a picture only now and then: an illustration for an article, a thumbnail, a placeholder logo, a product photo with the background removed. Opening a full design suite for that is heavy, and free image generators often impose limits you only discover afterwards. img.now presents itself as an image generator combined with an editing workspace, used from the browser.

The service is operated by a company called Targa Limited (its country is not given on the pages we read). This article relies only on the official img.now pages (home, pricing, free plan, help, about and terms of use), read on 17 October 2026. The AmonFun team has not tested the tool, so no claim about image quality is made here, only what the publisher states.

What img.now offers, according to its own site

The site groups its features into three families. The list below repeats what it announces; it has not been tried tool by tool.

• Generation: text-to-image and image-to-image with a choice of style and aspect ratio, plus dedicated generators for avatars, product photos, logos, social posts and banners.
• Editing: upscaling at 2x, 4x or 8x, enhancing (sharpness, noise, colour), background removal with a transparent PNG export, object removal, generative fill, cropping, blur, a collage of 2 to 9 photos and a 1280 x 720 YouTube thumbnail maker.
• Utilities: format conversion (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, PDF and others), resizing, compression, text recognition (OCR) and generated alt text.
• Extras listed: image-to-3D model conversion (.glb or .obj), photo-to-anime with 12 styles, and a clothes-changer tool.

According to the site, everything runs on a single image model that the publisher tunes and updates. The model is not named and you do not pick it; you only pick a quality level (standard, high or ultra).

Creating a first image, step by step

1. 1Open img.now and choose the image generator, or one of the listed tools if you want to edit an existing picture.
2. 2Describe the image you want in the text field. The more precise the request (subject, mood, lighting, framing), the better the chance the result matches your idea.
3. 3Pick a style and an aspect ratio, then the quality level: it sets how many credits are spent.
4. 4Start the generation, then download the result, edit it or upscale it with the other tools.
5. 5If you want to find your images again, create an account (sign in with Google or an emailed link): the site says signing in keeps your history and lets you reuse prompts.

The free plan, with the numbers

These are the amounts shown on the pricing page when we read it. They can change, so check them on the site before deciding.

• Cost per image: 20 credits at standard quality, 30 at high quality, 50 at ultra. The arithmetic is simple: the 100 monthly credits of the free plan cover at most 5 standard images, or 2 ultra images.
• The credit cost of the editing tools is not given as a figure: the site only says each use costs a small amount.
• The site mentions 40 bonus credits for each day you return. On the pages we read it does not say whether they accumulate or how long they stay valid.
• Credits reset each period and do not roll over. The terms add that credits have no cash value and cannot be transferred.
• On the free plan, files are kept for 24 hours, so download what you want to keep.
• Pro and Max include a 7-day trial; billing starts when the trial ends and you can cancel before then. No credit card is asked for to start on the free plan.

Strengths and limits

Usage rights and precautions

The site states that every image created is released under CC0 (public domain), with commercial use allowed and no attribution required. The terms of use (section 7) add two important caveats: results may resemble those of other users, and img.now cannot promise that an image is exclusively yours. You remain responsible for the lawfulness of your final use.

The site also says, on a dedicated page, that the legal status of AI-generated images depends on the country and on how much a person shaped the work. For a logo, a trademark or an important campaign, a legal check is prudent. Free images also carry a watermark that the terms forbid removing: for professional use, the paid plans are the only route the service provides.

About your files: you keep ownership of what you upload, you must have the rights to it, and you grant img.now a limited licence to host and process it. The service bans sexually explicit images, misuse of real people's likeness, deceptive deepfakes, hate and harassment, among other things. The minimum age is 16, or the age of digital consent in your country if higher.

How does it compare with alternatives already on AmonFun?

Without a test, a comparison of image quality would be speculation. The useful difference lies elsewhere: img.now puts a fixed monthly credit allowance and a watermark on free images in the foreground. What we could not confirm

• Whether an account is required to generate images for free: the home page says the tools can be used without an account and that signing in is for history, but the help page does not spell it out.
• The credit cost of the editing tools, the maximum resolution and file-size limits.
• The AI model used, the operator's country and how long data is retained.
• Actual image quality: AmonFun has not run any test.
